Dolceacqua
Discover this gem in the Ligurian interior, just 15 minutes from the sea.
To discover this beauty, drive 30 minutes from Nice airport along the sunny French Riviera, where you will pass fashionable Monaco and Menton, cross the border along the Italian Riviera towards Ventimiglia and Bordighera. From here it is a 15-minute drive inland into the mountains, on the way to the final destination, the mountain village of Dolceacqua.
Dolceacqua
Before you soon appears the beautiful castle of Dolceacqua, perched on a cliff, all stretched out in the green surroundings. Understandable that Claude Monet found inspiration for his painting “Le chateau de Dolceacqua” here, it is an atmospheric place, with a lively atmosphere.
The beautiful famous medieval arch bridge over the river Nervia connects Borgo, the old medieval part of the village, with the Terra district, where you will find nice shopping streets and terraces.
The literal highlight of Borgo is the imposing Castello dei Doria, once owned by the powerful Doria family of Genoa. There are still ties of the Doria family to the Monaco royal family. This summer (2023) there will once again be a variety of festivities designed to maintain and strengthen Dolceacqua’s ties with Monaco. Every now and then Prince Albert comes to visit, including during Monet’s magnificent 2019 exhibition.
In the summer of 2019, Dolceacqua Castle hosted the Monet “Return to the Riviera” event. 135 years after Monet’s stay, three paintings by the great French artist returned to Bordighera and Dolceacqua on the spot where they were made.
The project “MONET, BACK TO THE RIVIERA” was made possible through the collaboration with the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris through the precious work of its director, Mme Marianne Mathieu, and through the availability of HSH Albert II of Monaco.
In this SPECIAL village we offer a very charming lovely village house, which really has the most beautiful roof terrace in Dolceacqua. The view from this terrace is truly phenomenal, as it offers the best views of all the highlights as described above.
The village house/gatehouse located directly on the cozy square has been completely renovated in recent years and is therefore fully equipped.
Classification;
The entrance is under the gate where through the staircase you will find the entrance to the kitchen with a lovely balcony overlooking the cozy street. The kitchen is fully equipped; oven, induction hob, water heater, connection for a washer, dryer and dishwasher. Then you enter the dining room with also a balcony. Then the living room with a nice cozy pellet stove. Then you meander upstairs, where you will find 3 air-conditioned bedrooms (which can also heat) and 2 bathrooms (with heating). The bathrooms are equipped with shower, bathtub, toilet, bidet and sinks. There are also plenty of built-in closets for storing your clothes and the like. And then comes the highlight; the roof terrace with its phenomenal views, but also not to forget, a fine, cozy outdoor kitchen with dishwasher, induction cooktop and refrigerator. So you can enjoy your homemade meal with the great view and have breakfast in the sun with the beautiful panorama of the castle and the bridge.
